Meaning:
1: to punish or penalize for the sake of enforcing obedience and perfecting moral character
2: to train or develop by instruction and exercise especially in self-control
Discipline is a concept everyone is aware of, but few truly understand. The most successful people in life exert discipline on a daily basis. It is vital to every living being and without it, the world around us would be chaos. - Ashley Fern
Frantically, this is a word that needs to be printed on the wall of our house for everyday reminder as the hallmark for success. It is easy to set goals for ourselves and still lack discipline to achieve them. It is also natural to have certain character or principles and yet, no discipline to guide you.
We are in a world where things could easily go wrong in our life, career, relationship and family. These are times when you question your hard work, sleepless nights, devotion etc, you even get to think that you are not good enough for certain things to happen in your Life. All these happen because you don't count yourself worthy of success, good character and morals; so you get entrapped in mind manipulations and disobedient to values.
Discipline strengthens the mind so that it becomes impervious to the corroding influence of fear." - Bernard Law Montgomery.
One of the attributes of self-control is Discipline. You train yourself to reject things that are contrary to your values. You stay focused on the set goals till success is achieved. You keep trying even if you have failed several times. You embrace disappointment for another opportunity. You maintain your self esteem to attain that higher level you aspire.
It's more like how you feel when a child does something wrong. You scold them or punish them for doing it, hoping to see them stop that habit or never commit that offense again. This is an act of discipline for that child. They will never forget what happened and helps them to act appropriately when there is about to be a reoccurrence. Don't ever think training a child to be a better person is harsh. You only do this based on your experience with life and the consequence of some actions that should not be repeated on our loved ones.
That constant reminder of who you are, where you want to be and how to get there is Discipline. It helps you not to compromise your values for things that could disrupt your journey to good success. Even when there is a distraction, it helps you get back on track.
Stay devoted to your goal, be determined to cross every bridge you find in your way till you reach an accomplishment.
