Gratitude has many benefits attached based on life scenarios and whatever circumstances we find ourselves. The end product is Happiness.
Some of the benefits of expressing gratitude are increased self esteem, longevity, deeper relationships, more friendships and so on. This is also instigated by our act of kindness to people and society.

Personally, I apply the sense of gratitude anywhere and whatever I do. I must confess there are times when I am not being appreciative, it doesn't go down well. It results to having a guilty conscience, then I am not myself till I make things right. Not just for me but that's definitely the feeling you get, unless that person is hardhearted.
There is usually this feeling of fulfillment when you express your gratitude for the good thing someone has done for you. It will always bring good luck and favor anywhere you find yourself. You don't necessarily need to be grateful by giving money all the time, simple complements like Thank you, I appreciate you, I am Grateful... could do the work.
No matter how small the favor or the helper may be, always appreciate it. You never can tell when or where it would be needed again.
